Sail for Gold 2012

As we all know, 2012 sees the Olympics come to London and the sailing come to Weymouth. As part of the RYA Sail for Gold initiative, DYC will be following the national programme of events that will involve sailors from all round the country.

Here are some key dates for your diary:

Olympic Torch Relay- 27 May 2012
On Sunday 27 May Aberystwyth will welcome the Olympic torch and hold an evening celebration. The torch is scheduled to pass through Machynlleth and Dolgellau on the following day, Monday 28 May.

Sail for Gold Regatta - Weymouth - 4 to 9 July 2012
The warm up regatta to the Games, this regatta forms part of the ISAF World Cup and features all the Olympic classes that will be at the Olympics in August. DYC will be represented by Rupert Tildesley in the 49er at this regatta.

Sail for Gold Push the Boat Out Day, DYC - 28 July 2012
Let's get as many boats out on the Dovey Estuary as we can on 'Push the Boat Out' day and create an amazing spectacle!  This is the weekend at the start of the Olympics and it would be great to give the British Sailing Team a wonderful send off, waving flags and wishing them 'good luck'. No matter what sort of boat you own, please dress it up with as much bunting as you can get your hands on and get out on the estuary that day.

Sail for Gold club racing, DYC- 4 August 2012
Celebrate the Olympics by participating in the Sail for Gold club races. Each boat will represent a different Olympic country and will compete for DYC Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, presented at the Sail for Gold barbecue. Decorate your boat with your country's flag, wear a piece of National dress, paint your face or just stick on your usual wetsuit, whatever you're wearing it's sure to be fun.

Sail for Gold
Barbecue, DYC - 4 August 2012
This will be a great social event, so put on something gold and come along. Bring your own food to cook on the barbecue and we'll provide the salad. A medal ceremony, DYC style, will be held during the evening in the lounge.

Sail for Gold - Have a go day! - 25 August 2012
Calling all sailing members; this is our chance to show the local community and regular visitors to Aberdyfi what sailing is all about. Please rig your boats by 10am and be ready to let as many visitors "have a go" as possible, with you at the helm!
