The Dovey Estuary has long been synonymous with dinghy sailing. Since Jack Holt designed the GP14 in Aberdovey in 1948 and adopted the bell of Aberdovey as the class insignia, dinghy sailing has become a well-established feature of the village. The GP14 fleet survives and is still a strong presence in the club, featuring in club races and attracting a good sized fleet for the Open Meeting in August. The vintage section of the class also visits as part of their annual calendar.

Modern day dinghy sailing at DYC has embraced the newer classes with a wide variety of boats starting club handicap races including the following.
  • Laser
  • Solo
  • RS Vision
  • RS Feva
  • Laser 2000
  • Laser Vortex
  • 49er
  • Laser 3000
  • RS Aero
  • Topper
The club also has its own boats that members are welcome to use and which provide a great starting point for those looking to eventually get their own boat. There is also a modern fleet of RIBs and safety boats to monitor the activities on the water.

In 2019, we  introduced a new masters class in our regular dinghy racing to give the more experienced sailors their own trophy.

Social sails often take place and our members communicate via our dedicated sailing and social what's app groups.

If you are new to dinghy sailing, why not come along to the Club, or book a place at Windy Club which runs on a Thursday evening during the summer months.
